“Gifts or Creatures is the musical pursuit of husband-wife Brandon and Bethany Foote. The couple fuses a blend of midwestern folklore, old world history and cinematic soundscapes to create a trove of antique Americana.” (Earthwork Music)

The Michigan-duo from Lansing, Michigan has spent three years to create their third album, Fair Mitten (New Songs of the Historic Great Lakes Basin). The collection of songs explores Michigan’s rich history, spanning the last four centuries focusing on a variety of topics. Brandon spent time at the Archives of Michigan researching our state’s unique history, discovering hidden stories of Michigan’s past, and finding inspiration for the album. According to Gifts or Creatures, they hope the album will “reach and inspire a new demographic of lovers and protectors of the Great Lakes.” Michiganology shares these same values in preserving the cultural and historic resources of our state and as a for-purpose project of the Archives of Michigan and Michigan History Center, we are proud to share Brandon and Bethany’s project and their journey.
